Unused Rewards Certificate

I have earned two "2012 Spring MegaBonus Free Night Certificate, Category 1-4 Hotel" certificates through my Marriott Rewards program but when I try to use points to reserve a category 4 hotel I'm unable to use the certificate.  Will I need to call Marriott Rewards directly to use these certificates?

I think so.  At least that's the only way I've ever been able to use them.

Once you have reached Step 2 of the reservation process labeled "Enter guest information", go to the first option under "Credit Card information" which is labeled "Select e-certificate(s) for your reservation."  Your unused promotional certificate will be listed.

    jlamora,

After reviewing the tip from community manager, it appears that you indeed can redeem the free night reward certificates with an online reservation.  The trick is when you do your 'find and reserve' that you click the 'use Marriott points' check box when doing your search.

Once you select the room rate (in points), click the continue button.

On the next page, where 'enter guest information,' if you scroll down, you will indeed see the option to use existing ecerts.  It should show any free night ecerts for you to choose from.

    Hope this helps!

That's exactly how I use the certificates every time.  No problem.

I wish someone at Marriott would have told me this.  I've always had trouble redeeming these certificates.  It was just recently  confirmed to me by a Marriott Rewards Guest Services Rep that I must call the Reservations line first and then I need to contact Marriott Rewards to ensure that my promotional certificate is attached to the reservation.  These certificates have always been so cumbersome to redeem.  Nobody ever said I could do this online.  Thanks so much for sharing this.
