Marriott New Orleans

I just paid $25 to pick up a package mailed to the Marriott New Orleans. That is ridiculous for a business traveler, who often has materials mailed to him. The ONLY other time I have had to pay was in LAs Vegas at a casino/resort, and I believe that was $10. This was two small boxes, and I am a platinum member. I will not be staying here again. I will give the manager a chance to refund the charge, but am 99% sure it won't be happening. AVOID!

PS I have already talked to other chains on the street (SPG properties that will match my status) and think this $25 charge could lose Marriott a 100 night a year customer.

If I were you, I would talk directly to the General Manger about this and also call customer care to let them know how you feel about this and the likelihood that Marriott will lose a lot of your business in the future.

    jbrettlip,

I agree with Jasper.  I would call the GM and talk to Platinum Customer Care to see what they could do.  Sorry to hear about the inconvenience and bad experience.

We shall see. I am pretty non-confrontational, which is why I posted here. I doubt there is a manager around now, but I am going to check on this. I know it sounds petty, but I think it is ridiculous to charge for INBOUND packages.

You do not have to be confrontational. Just discuss it professionally and I feel confident that you will be able to resolve the issue!!!

What was the $25 charge supposed to cover? Mail comes to the hotel everyday. I'm certain they didn't have to bring in extra payroll to handle your packages. What would they do if you decided not to pay? Would they return to sender? If not, wouldn't they be committing a crime be messing with the mail?

This charge can only be summed up as greed and a money grab. Not a good way to treat any guest, regardless of MR status.

Well it is the Fed EX office in the hotel. My packages came Fed Ex. So I should have been charged "handling" in the postage. I have paid many a handling fee for outgoing packages, without complaint.

the only time I have ever paid for an Incoming package was in Las Vegas at Trump International. What a ripoff.

What on earth is possible? Now I know!  Ridiculous and impossible to defend

I was told by the front desk manager that this was going to become standard practice at all Marriotts. There was no refund of my $25. I then called Platinum line and they said they were unsure if it is going to be nationwide or not. I informed them that they are losing someone who has stayed at their properties for the last 5 years, and I will take my business elsewhere. There was not much concern on their part, as I am still waiting for a call back from either the GM or someone at Marriott Customer Care.
