Exhilarating jet boat ride through the spectacular gorges of the Waimakariri River on 27 February 2012 near Christchurch, New Zealand. I will put 6 videos of this ride to give a perspective of a jet boat ride. The jet boat ride lasted about 30 minutes. I put the camera down when the Jet Boat Driver signalled a 360 degree turn to protect my camera. We did aroung 6-7 360 degree turns at high speeds.
We were told that tourism is down over 40 percent in Christchurch, New Zealand since the major earthquake on 22 February 2011. For example, the jet boat driver told us that our group of three were the only ones booked today in this incredible beautiful weather.
Really beautiful river. If I take one of those, I see I will have to look at the side of the boat first, to see how many times he has scraped the rocks that it looks like he loves to go close to! Is the fishing any good in that river, and do they let tourists fish in the river for any reasonable price? Thanks for posting the wild ride.
I am not a fisherman, but yes they have half day and full day river fishing tours.
The tour agency I used in Christchurch was Canterbury Leisure Tours (CLT)
Here is an example fo the full day river fishing tours:
CLT21A Full Day River Fishing Tour
Collected from your accommodation, you will be transferred to our fishing guide, you will be equicped with all spin fishing equipment and fishing licence. We will travel to either the Waimakariri or Rakaia Rivers depending on river and weather conditions. Both rivers contain brown trout, rainbow trout and salmon in summer months. A jet boat is used to transport you on the river from one location to another. A picnic lunch is included with the full day tour. Daily departures throughtout the year. Tour duration approximately 9 hours.
The river I jet boated on was the Waimakariri River!!!
They also have Sea Fishing Tours in Kaikoura.
Start getting ready for your New Zealand Trip!!!
Well, our trip would be after the great Europe tour in a couple of years, so I think 3 - 4 years out is realistic. Never too soon to plan . I think I would opt for the river fishing trip and the Waimakariri River would be beautiful to fish! Thanks for the help and the great videos!!
I was hoping it was you that caught that record Blue Marlin, in the last few days! Off Houtloura, New Zealand, it was was 738 pounds! A world record, and the guy wants to mount it on his wall, but his wife has reservations.
There must be some huge fish in New Zealand.
