This is more like the highlands of Scotland, than the 18th at the Inn at Spanish Bay, one of the Pebble Beach resorts. We took a friend to see the Bagpiper, and she was very good, doing America the Beautiful and Amazing Grace while standing among the Monterey Cypress and Pine trees.
The 45 minute long evening concert is free, for those who wanted to brave the chill of a January evening, but there are fire pits, and benches with blankets for the hardy. We dressed in layers, several to be exact, and I stood to take this photo. Ironically every day since and before has been sunny and clear, but not Thursday evening last.
Is there a symbolism or tradition that goes with the bagpiper playing here? Looks like it's right on the course next to the green! Hope golfers weren't still playing....especially me! One of those 'errant' shots might be bonking off her noggin'...especially with all the haze/fog that seems to be present!
Scottish Links are the style of the course at Spanish Bay, and the golfers are long gone when this begins. One problem with the course is that it was designed with an automatic sprinkling system, so that when it feels dry it starts to water no matter what's going on.Recently without rain it's been going off a lot and that's not good. But they almost always remember to turn off the system when the bagpiper starts.
