Where to stay on the strip in Vegas?

Planning a trip to Las Vegas on or around 20 December.  Would like to stay on the strip, but none of the Marriotts are on the strip.  Any suggestions?

The MVCI operation (Chateau?) is just off the strip perhaps 1/2 block.  Very near several major casinos.

The Chateau is a good place to stay. You may also want to consider the Cosmopolitan. Although there have been mixed reviews of the Cosmoplitan, this seems to be the new "thing" in Vegas!!!

I've stayed at the MGM Grand and the Venetian ... some friends stayed at the Bellagio.  We all have the same impression ... they are huge impersonal hotels.  It depends on what you are looking to do.  As you may know, they are all 'themed' in some way ... e.g. the Venetian has a canal with gondolas and the MGM Grand has a lion area and was also great for a Cirque du Soleil show but otherwise they had similar facilities (casinos/restaurants).  I suggest that you find the best deal you can and go for it.

Thanks for the responses.  I wanted to stay in one of the big hotels on the strip--from East TN the whole trip was under $1000 for 2--but my wife has vetoed Vegas as an anniversary destination. ;-)

I'd encourage you to do some research on Jasper100's recommendation, above - take a look at the Autograph Cosmopolitan.    Lots of discussion of the facility on this site:

It's coming up on it's one-year anniversary - sorry, don't know the exact date.  (We stayed there last year, right after it opened, and we were really impressed.  We're going to give it a try, again, in a few months.) Yes, it's clear they've experienced some growing pains.  But it's a great location and an impressive property....

We actually prefer the off strip Renaissance for location, quiet and lack of casinos in the hotel.

Its not a Marriott but we really enjoy the Palazzo. Love the location. Have not stayed at the Cosmopolitan but I have heard its nice.
