I have raised this issue before to blind eyes. Hyatt gives their Diamond Members (their highest level) 4 suite upgrades a year based on availability..Why can't Marriott match this perk? For me, whenever I can get a good rate at Hyatt, I book them over the Marriott as I get a guaranteed suite upgrade. As a result, Marriot loses my business.
I agree, nothing will happen. Why would you want to give your best customers any thing of value like this? And now that it is so easy to get Platinum now, there probably would not be enough suite upgrades that could be given. Another thought is to give at least 2 suite upgrades a year to Platinum members so that they can use them when travelling with family. A nice token considering that is the main time a suite upgrade would be very much apppreciated!!!!
I guess we need to understand that competition in the lodging business is unlike most other industries: airlines get a good idea (bag charges being one) and everyone follows suit. In lodging the companies carve out niches from cheap to uber luxury, and assume that the guests will show up, even clamor for a room during busy times. As others have posted the locations some of us frequent are Marriott-less so we go elsewhere. Bottom line: good ideas are seldom copied unless they are seen as a life preserver for failing revenues.
