all depends on where you use them really. A room in a cat 8 property is 40k a night and probably averages around that price point a night at normal rates. You'd still have 10k points for a free cat 2 night somewhere, generally worth 100-125/night. I'd say look at the http://www.marriott.com/rewards/pointsGridPopUp.mi?awardType=Standard page and then look at some properties you would look to use the points at and compare values.
Thanks for your help. Any idea where I can find a list of what hotels fall into each category? Where does a courtyard fall versus a full service marriott? How do i find out what category each hotel is? Again any help would be appreicated
There is no real list of hotels that I'm aware of with categories but when you are looking up hotels, just click the "use points" box and it will show you the category/cost per night. There is no real rhyme or reason to it, some towns a courtyard is a cat 2 and in others it is a cat 5 or 6....seems to really be market driven than brand. The farther in advance you plan it, you can catch the less costly point savers rates and if you are booking for a week I believe there is still a program to use 4 nights of points get the 5th free. Again, its all in where you use your points. Lets use a Insiders favorite location for example. The Marriott Champs-Elysees, and for grins I picked May 24th for one night and clicked on "use points" on the search page. The resulting screen shows you all the details I think you are looking for, you just need to evaluate it on properties you might consider using. For the Champs-Elysees property, it is a category 8 property or 40k points a night. The cash equivalent is 499E (or around 735USD at today's exchange). I cant attach a screen shot here for you but give that a shot and see if you see the same data. Hope that helps
