I am a Gold Elite member and I will be staying at the Courtyard Isla Verde in PR soon. I will be using my reward points. I was wondering if I will be able to get a free room upgrade or breakfast the same as a paid stay?
Short answer: LOL A copy/paste of a previous post with key details of CY-IV experience: I just spent a week on points at the Marriott Courtyard, Isla Verde, Puerto Rico (11/20-11/27/09) with my family of four. I had called Marriott rewards/reservations using the special Platinum-Premier line to set up the trip and even applied an e-cert upgrade to "guarantee" getting a suite (one night upgrade applied first night to get the suite; I figured once in the suite using the upgrade, the staff could not possibly force me to move to a regular room). The Isla Verde has 238 rooms and has 22 suites. Upon arrival, the front desk said they were at 100% capacity. I know points do not guarantee upgrades, but despite the Marriott CSR putting my e-cert on my reservation, adding "special notes" to the reservation, etc. I was given a 1-level upgrade over the lowest room (non-suite, partial ocean view). According to the front desk, there were "several dozen platinum members" already checked in and all the suites were taken.
KingStreet, To answer generally, as an Elite member you will receive all of your Elite benefits regardless of whether your stay is paid or using rewards points. With regard to this specific hotel, please keep in mind that room upgrades are based on availability and Courtyard hotels do not guarantee breakfast as a benefit. As suggested earlier, you may want to check with the front desk regarding these specifics. Regards, Laura
I will say this though, for all my stays at Courtyard and say it is a weekend stay, breakfast has been included at no additional charge be it on points or paid. When traveling on business, I always get the breakfast using hotel vouchers-NEVER had to pay and IF my customer was being a pain with expenses, I just relay that information to the front desk and I get vouches. So, word to the wise. Always check with the front desk-they CAN make changes.
