I probably have my head in the sand but I was just informed that American Airlines is withdrawing from the Rewards program. How and why did this happen? Am I wrong in thinking that this is a huge loss to the program?
From MR's site: We'd like you to know about a program change coming this summer. Effective July 1, 2010, members will no longer have the option to earn American Airlines AAdvantage® miles. The last day to earn miles will be June 30, 2010. Please note that this is also the last date you will be able to convert your Marriott Rewards points to AAdvantage miles. If you are currently registered to earn with American Airlines, you can switch to any of 30 other airline programs or change your earning preference to points. It takes only seconds — simply edit your online account profile. You need to be logged in to access this directly: https://www.marriott.com/marriott/american-airlines.mi
