I am getting this same thing as a silver soon gold member, trying to book rooms for next year. No reward rooms available for a +- 4 week interval. Seems they are starting to cut down on rewards redemptions...notice how the dreamrewards tracker also doesn't have the 7 nights here or there redemptions anymore? A shame, if they keep it up we may have to switch our primary rewards. And we have been so happy with their loyalty program
While I acknowledge your question was undoubtedly about REWARD redemption for rooms, I have had the same problem trying to PAY for a room. On multiple occasions at more than one hotel, I have not seen any rooms available - even for sale - at the hotels I am trying to book. Try the Anaheim Marriott for one night on 11MAY2011 (I'm not even trying to book on short notice!). The hotel is not available - or is it leaving the Marriott family? So much for that aspect of the Platinum "Guaranteed Availability" benefit
I am 6 nights away from being a platinum level traveler and I use my reward points often. I have not had any problems with Marriott. I am also a gold member at Hilton but I there I run into problems trying to get a room using my rewards so I try to use Marriott as often as possible.
I am a multi-year platinum and I have definitely noticed fewer rooms available for rewards redemption. This NO BLACKOUT scam is all misleading and Marriott should be challenged on these bait and switch tactics. I also agree that the new redemption requirements and the lack of a seven day redemption and the elimination of their former E3 promotion all stink. I am reviewing my options with both Hilton and Hyatt, both of whom seem to be willing to offer me their highest priority status and we're working on their guaranteeing no blackouts unless conflict with conventions. Stay tuned.
