Going to London in early November. My choices for hotel are Park Lane @ 160k or Marble Arch @ 140k. It will be a family of 4 with executive lounge access (platinum level). Which is recommended for tube and lounge use? Worth the extra 20k pts?
I haven't stayed at the Marble Arch Marriott but based on what others have said here, I would not select it. I have, however, stayed at Park Lane property and liked the hotel itself but the room I was assigned was tiny. On a previous trip I had stayed at Grosvenor Square, which is a few block from Park Lane, and also like that hotel, although the rooms there were also very tight. The Park Lane is about 50 steps away from the Marble Arch station and the lounge was quite good, although when I was there they didn't offer any hot selections (eggs and such) for breakfast. A lot of contributors here highly recommend County Hall, which is near Parliament and London Eye. That will be my destination of choice on my next trip there.
I've never stayed at the Park Lane, but have stayed at the Marble Arch. It is in an ethnic area which is pretty lively and I enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed the Turkish/ Iranian restaurant nearby. It isn't right beside a tube station but get an oyster card (you can get them at tube stations) and ride the bus or walk, it really isn't that far. The "upgraded" room I was given was fine, but I would dread a normal one in that case. Although the hotel was fine, I had a couple of issues. The executive lounge is okay, not fantastic. The front desk photocopied my AAA card without permission, and they are the ONLY hotel to have ever done that. Others just look. Not having been to the other hotel, I am not sure what to say. I would stay at the Marble Arch again, it was comfortable, well located and interesting. Would be nice if they got new management .
Stayed at the Marble Arch this spring for 11 nights. While the room was small the location was excellent, short walk to subway or bus. Easy walk to Picadilly Circus. Would definately stay there again. Exec lounge was on a par with many others I have enjoyed.
I agree to stay at County Hall. Have stayed many times at Marble Arch, but would never stay there again. The area is too dangerous. Second choice would be Grosvenor House Marriott, it is a great place1
I have stayed a couple of times at the Maida Vale Marriott. The rooms, at least on the executive floor, are decent size and the lounge is attractive and well stocked. It is next door to a tube station, the Bakerloo line and an overground station. I just looked up the hotel and the points per night go for 120,000 which would a savings. It is a bit out, and takes about 15 minutes to get to the center.
