We are considering a long week-end trip to Niagara Falls this fall. I would like to get recommendations on Marriott hotels in the area and "must do" activities. Will the fall foliage be pretty in mid-to-late October?
The Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa on the Canada side is a great hotel, and they will almost surely upgrade you to a room with a spectacular view of the falls. They also include a great free breakfast buffet. The Maid of the Mist is the 1 must-do activity.
Mid to late October could be late for the foliage, it all depends on the weather. If the weather is good, there are some spectacular gardens north of the falls on the Canadian side. The hotels are better on the Canadian side and the one recommended in the previous message is a great one. If you are saying in the US, there is a Marriott in Amherst (on the north side of Buffalo) that is the best bet.
Thank you IE and Steve. The view from the Fallsview Hotel looks spectacular. I confirmed that they do offer complimentary breakfast on the week-end for platinum elite. We will probably go in mid-October and keep our fingers crossed that the fall foliage is at its' peak.
A lot of the attractions in the Falls (Maid of the Mist, etc) might be closed for the season by then. The Butterfly Conservatory in Canada is fun. Mid-October should be great for seeing the colors. If you have the time, drive over to see Letchworth Park (the Grand Canyon of the east). You will LOVE it
The Canadian side is the way to go. We have stayed at the Fallsview Marriott and it is wonderful. The view was spectacular. We are frequent visitors and usually stay at the Courtyard Niagara Falls and get the 2 room family suites. There isn't a Fallsview, but it is centrally located, just a few minutes walk to either the "new" Casino side or Clifton Hill. Their breakfast buffet is excellent and as gold members, they have given us complimentary breakfast coupons. There is also a new Gateway Marriott that we have not yet been to. Maid of the Mist is great. Not far from the Marriott Fallsview is the beautiful Mount Carmel Spiritual Center, truly a hidden gem. Tim Horton's coffee is the best! If you have a car, drive the Niagara River Parkway, stop at the Botanical Gardens, go through the Butterfly Conservatory, stop at the Floral Clock, and drive into Niagara on the Lake. Bring your golf clubs and play the course along this parkway or better yet right in Niagara on the Lake. There are so many wineries and things to do there its impossible to list them all. If you are a foodie, there are tons of great restaurants. Check out the Shaw Festival and catch a play at one of the theatres. The fall colors might be done at this point, but I'm sure you will still enjoy the scenery. It will be considerably less crowded than the summer. Have fun!
