I can tell you that the Marriott Burger at the Houston Airport Marriott must be consistently good. I have returned to the hotel (I can now recommend it, they have renovated it very nicely!) and their burgers are great. I never realized how important it is to get the right amount of lettuce, etc, but it really hit me when I had a burger here. There must be a science to it.
Calgary Marriott - excellent burger also.
It was part of my first Marriott experience, really. I have mentioned it before, but it also happened to be the first time I tried Grey Poupon Mustard, and the first time I tried Hunt's Ketchup, both of which were good. Most places I've been to have made pretty good "Marriott" burgers, some of them are much better than others (Like Houston Airport and actually Calgary Downtown). I've been two two Marriotts where they were downright awful, but I've learned what to have at those two places instead (clubhouse). At the end of the day, I want to have a comfortable, safe experience and have something I like to eat. I've learned that in many instances, a Marriott Burger is an important piece of the puzzle, although, yes, I do eat other things.
At the Charleston Marriott, we had to send back a Marriott Burger 3 times. My wife asked for it medium rare and they kept giving her burgers that were brown all the way through. The manager said that the "chef" was putting them on the grill for the time specified for a medium rare burger. I said "obviously the grill is too hot, then," My wife finally changed her order to something else.
Seriously, if the specified time yields a burger that is too well done you don't follow the same script for the next one. You either cook it for less time or you turn down the temperature.
You know phctourist that the "chef" you refer to in Charleston is not really a chef if that is how they are being cooked. To me it sounds more like a maintenance person helping out in the kitchen.
Every time I've had one, it's come with Cheese and Bacon standard. Of course they will dress it up or down from there any way you like it! Great burger! I am going to try the IAH Marriott Burger soon at techie recommendation!
