A demanding itinerary! The Barcelona Ren is best described as functional. It is (a) close to the airport with a regular shuttle service to the terminals and (b) within 30/45 minutes (depending on traffic) of city centre and there is a free coach service twice a day. Getting from Barcelona to Malaga by plane shouldn't be a problem - i.e. about 90 mins at most and a fairly regular Iberia service. Malaga Airport is on the Marbella side of the city - again about 30 mins by taxi or hire car. The Marriott in Lisbon city centre is very convenient for the Airport (15 mins by taxi) and a very friendly hotel - outdoor pool, gym, executive lounge - and about 20 mins from ciity centre. Getting from Marbella to Lisbon might be the most difficult part of your journey. A relatively easy drive (say, 5 hours) but I'm not sure whether there is a direct plane service. If not, you would probably need to fly via Madrid. Best of luck

Yes, Barcelona Ren is 'functional' at best (50's version of futuristic, furnished by IKEA) but transport to city is ok. Takes you to an area where you can get multiple forms of public transit including 'on-off' type tours of the city on multiple routes.

Barcelona Renaissance? That's near the airport but they do have shuttle service to city centre and back. Taxi's are also not expensive (and not very good either...) Value for money-wise the hotel is not bad at all by European standards, don't quite get the "functional at best" comment, matter of taste perhaps. Going to Marbella means flying into Malaga (or possibly Jerez (3 hrs by car) , Granada (2 hrs by car))  Driving the main (partly toll) road is a long trip (the whole day for sure, one way), driving along the coast is VERY beautiful but will take you a very, very long time, as every time you're in a village you slow down to a crawl. The train will also take all day. Marbella hotels - the Marriot Vacation Club Resort there is good, the one next door (12kms)  in Estepona is nothing short of amazing. You will need a car though, public transport leaves much to be desired. To Lisbon/Lisboa: TAP flies direct, to book see www.skyscanner.net , by car is at least 7 hours, more likely 9 hours,  plus some quite mountainous terrain. Be sure to get good maps! The Marriott in Lisboa is indeed fine. Barcelona and Lisboa are fantastic cities, Barcelona is hipper and Lisboa more ancient, but you could spend  a week in each in not get bored. Marbella and surroundings are sun/sea/beach but fiarly stylish, not like some the garish low-end vacation spots (Torermolinos...), and when there you could consider visiting Puerto Banus (the marina of the rich in Spain) and Ronda (1 hour drive, stunning city set on a rock with a canyon, must see) Final tip - if renting a car, watch out - automatic gearbox is not standard! and the cheap cars are VERY small by US standards (luggage..). Have fun
