the beach is across the street. not always convenient. pool area is nice. rooms are big. the lobby restaurant has the best steaks around, but even that doesn't make up for having to cross the street to ge to the beach when you are on vacation. but if your family is more into the pool scene, then i think you will do fine here.
Thanks, PlatinumMike! I read some other reviews that were not so favorable. Don't know if I want to risk it. Maybe I will look for another beach locatrion. We are spending a few days at Disney prior to heading to the beach -- anyone have any good suggestions for how mto use my points in FL at the beach? As we will fly in/out of Orlando, I don't want to get too terribly far away. I am bringing the kids. We're not looking for the most elegant place, but a property that will offer great family fun, and access to the beach, pool, etc...help! Thanks! =)
Marriott Marco Island is perfect for Families. Right on the beach. Great restaurants, Beach Store, Movie Theatre (They serve dinner inside the theatre) are a block down across from the Hilton. Snook Inn is 2 miles it is on the water and has a Jimmy Buffet feel. Three Bros pizza is best on the island. Bubblini's great Italian. Everglades on Airboat tour is awesome. You can even take a day trip to Key West via Ferry. The sand has some shells in it. Not like the sugar white sand at Clearwater. Hilton at clearwater is right on the sand.
If flying Southwest Tampa is 2.5 hrs from Marco. Butyou can fly to Ft Myers or Ft Lauderdale. If going to Ft Lauderdale you can get to any of the beach hotels via cab 10 minutes. No need for a car rental. Want to amp it up.. Go to the beach in Ft Lauderdale. The take one of the $149 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. Cheaper than buying food at restaurants.
Or after Orlando, just take a short cruise (3nights) to the Carribean from Port Canaveral (one hour drive from Orlando). Royal Carribean stops for one day at CocoCay Beach (their own private island) and the staff cooks all the food on the beach. This cruise will also take you to Atlantis Hotel in Nassau - -sO GRAND! Your family will have plenty to do (and eat). If you must use your points, there's the Ritz in Naples (on Vanderbilt road) or South Beach in Miami.
