We stayed a week at the Playa Andaluza and used it as a base for local tours. It is a beautiful resort but you really need a car. We had many fun day trips: Gibraltra; Ronda, Estepona; Sotogrande; Marbella. We did a quick tour of the Marbella Beach Club. It is closer to the Malaga Airport. It is also very nice and a good choice if you plan to stay in Marbella and use the resort for the week. It would also serve as a good base for local/regional tours.

If you do a search on this website, you will find quite a number of posts on these properties.

Stayed at both. The Playa is nicer and more compact. The beach is better. Marbella has more children staying and is noisier. Depends what you are looking for. Choose Playa for a relaxing holiday or Marbella for something more lively!

Yes to both. I'm an owner at the Beach Club which in my opinion is much better. The Beach Club is on the best beach in Marbella and is now fully completed whereas Playa is still not finished and is not in such a good location. I've had a home in marbella for over 10 years and know the area very well.

We own at Playa and have stayed there loads of times. We have also stayed at Marbella Beach Resort a few times - the last occassion being last month & we were in Playa in the first week of January. If you plan to be out a lot, it probably doesn't matter which you choose. They are both close to Marbella, La Canada shopping centre & Puerto Banus (the main shopping areas), and it's much cheaper to get a hire car at the Airport than use taxis. They also both have their own beaches. MBR has a mature atmosphere about it and is buzzing with vitality - especially around reception as the gym, bar, shop are all in the same building. Playa feels more laid back, as the main activity areas are more spread out across the resort. It has good facilities (table tennis, chess, basketball, lots of pools). Construction has finished, but there's a bit of landscaping and access to an underground car park going on. I used to prefer MBR, but having stayed at both in the last 30 days, I marginally prefer Playa because it has matured over the years, but to be honest there's hardly anything between them. Both are absolutely excellent, very well run with attentive and informed staff, and at the top end of 5 star
