How do you get early check-in? I usually don't need it but when I did, the staff made us sit in the lobby until 4pm sharp. I would gladly pay for early check-in and I checked the box when I made the reservation for our trip to Paris next year.
You will usually get a confirmation from the hotel of your booking about five days before your stay. There is a section "Make your requests now". Check on that and indicate that you would like early check-in and indicate around what time you expect to arrive at the hotel. In my experience, all but one time I got into my room as soon as I arrived (which is usually very early in the morning when you arrive from the US). The exception (which could happen anywhere) was the London County Hall, where I had to wait till 3pm despite my early check-in request. They explained there had been a large wedding the night before and people had not checked. So go the extra step beyond checking the box with the time -- write a personal note in the box that says this is important because you're arriving so early. I travel about 12 or more times a year to Europe and usually stay at Marriotts, and as I said this has only happened to me once. ProfChiara
If you don't receive early check-in, just leave your bags at the hotel's checked luggage facility and go begin your siteseeing in Paris. If you're jet-lagged, the best thing you can do is to keep moving! If you want a slower pace, maybe a hop on-hop off bus tour would be a good place to start (and get your bearings at the same time).
Thank you for your responses. I had forgotten about that confirmation e-mail. We're going to be about an hour outside of Paris. We've tried that once before, storing our luggage and walking around because they wouldn't let us check-in. We were miserable. I have a feeling that the pressure of having to sleep on the plane will mean that we definitely won't sleep. Since it's a Monday in non-peak time of year, hopefully they'll let us in. If not, it's lunch and wi-fi at McDo. Thanks!
