Considering a trip to either Oahu or Maui soon and wondering if someone has been to a great marriott rewards usage property recently? Interested in good pools and nice updated rooms with great restaurants and service.
I have stayed at 3 properties on Maui. I would rate them: 1. Ritz-Carlton Kapulua 2. Marriott Waialea 3. Marriott Kaanapali all 3 can be had using Marriott reward points and none would disappoint. Aloha!
We have been to Hawaii 6 times (7th coming up next year) and we always stay in Honolulu the first night before flying to whatever other island(s) we're visiting. Except for the first year we have always stayed at the Marriott Waikiki and are never disappointed. Last year (2009) we traveled with our son and daughter-in-law and her parents and we all stayed at the Marriott Waikiki. They loved it too. The beach is right across the street and they are always good about giving room upgrades if available which they usually are in May or Sept when we usually go. You won't be disappointed if you stay there. We always consider it an excellent use of our rewards points.
We are Marriott Vacation Club owners and visit the islands almost every year. On Oahu, the two properties out at Ko Olina are both outstanding if you want to get away from the city and the crowds. They both have great pools and the lagoons are beautiful. Dining options are, however, somewhat limited and expensive if you're on a tight budget. On Maui, we like Ka'anapali and Kapalua (The Ritz) Beaches. Both properties also have great pools. Ka'anapali has many dining options from $ to $$$$ and all are within walking distance. We usually go over in November when almost everything is a bit slower. Hope you enjoy your visit.
