Can anyone recommend a relaxing location to spend a long weekend for our upcoming 10th anniversary? We'll be traveling from Boston in late September/early October. We love the Carribean but I worry about hurricane season that time of year.
We love the Panama City Beach Bay Harbor resort in Panama City Beach, FL. It's on the gulf side. The property is very nice, a few pools to choose from. Best part about it is the semi private beach that you have to take the Marriott boat to. The sands are nice and white and soft. The waters are crystal clear blue, and the water is usually very calm. Nice beach to take a walk and look for shells. The rooms are decent, but nothing overly ex.citing. Lots of places to drive to for great dinners. If you want something a little more exotic, go to Puerto Rico and stay at the La Concha, Renassiance. Every room has an ocean view, beach and pool right there. Rooms are nice, higher the floor the better. Pretty fancy place, meals at the hotel are a little pricey. Oh, casino on the main floor as well. Good luck!
I would not let the hurricane threat stop me from going...My wife and I travel in the caribbean often during this season and (knock on wood) have never encountered any weather related troubles. Try CasaMagna Cancun or the St. Thomas Marriott, both are excellent!
My wife and I loved Vancouver, Canada. Tons of stuff to do outdoors and great Marriotts on the water. Recommend flying to Seattle and driving to Vancouver. Might also be cool to see the place (Whistler, just north of Vancouver) where the last winter olympics were held. I've been all over the world and think Vancouver has the best sushi - even better than Tokyo!
If you want to stay in the Continental United States I have had an incredible experience at 2 West Coast properties. Coronado Island Resort & Spa - you don't have beach access here (it is on the otherside of the island), but it offers every other relaxation you could want. The view is spectular of San Diego, and you can go and Visit the Hotel Del Cornonado which is very close. This property also has a free ferry to take you across the channel to the down town Marriot property Le Merigut - JW Marriot Beach Resort and Spa, Santa Monica - The spa here is wonderful and the rooms are incredibly comfortable. It is a beach resort, but the Santa Monica Beach really isn't the beach you want to go to in LA. You can take a short (2 mile) bike ride down the coast to Venice Beach for ideal beach time.
Just stayed at Marriott Palm-Beach Singer Island,FL. They have 2 pools. One for kids with water slide and 1 quiet pool that is a salt water pool. It is on the beach. Great view and not too loud. I believe it is an all suite property. Wel appointed and the staff is spectacular. The food at the SOLU restaurant was so good we ate there twice passing up other nice places in the area. They have inside and outside dining at SOLU. We opted for outside with view of beach and ocean. 20 min from W. Palm Beach Airport.
