I am heading back to Istanbul and other parts of Turkey in January.  I have heard mixed reports about the Istanbul edition -- from Trockie's report last year and from tripadvisor.com which says it is not particularly close to the city center.  I stayed last time at the Renaissance Polat, out on the Sea of Marmara near the airport and loved it. (And they had ample downtown transportation.

Just curious, has anyone stayed at the Istanbul Edition since last year?  I'm wondering if it really is 'a business hotel out in the middle of nowhere'? Or would it be a worthwhile stay?  I can't afford the Ritz.

Also, besides Ephesus (where I've been twice) are there other ancient or medieval historical sites that can be gotten to in Turkey that people would recommend?
