I attempted to make reservations in Green Bay for 7/26 through 7/28, and despite the fact that it was seven days ahead of the check in date, I was denied a room despite my Platinum Premier level membership. I called the reservation line and customer service and got no satisifaction. The best part is, I successfully booked a room with Hampton on line while on hold with Marriott customer service.

wow. that stinks. did the hotel explain to you that they had a "special event" going on that superseeded the 48 hour guarantee? That is another "small print" safety net for them to not honor the guarantee, much like the "no Blackout guarantee" which we all know is full of lopholes to get them out of honoring that promise. such is life...
If you haven't already done so and still would like to stay there, call not the Reservations Line but the special number on the back of your Platinum Premier card. I usually get through right away on that line, whereas you can wait forever on the normal Marriott customer service lines. If Hampton had rooms, they should -- unless, as Shoeman says -- there is a wedding or some other special event pre-booked. If so, why not ask them the nature of the event?
Still, it is part of an unfortunate pattern.
