I have stayed at the Los Suenos Marriott at Jaco, a very nice property with the nicest Marina in Costa Rica. The property is top notch, small casino, great pool, great restaurants. The only drawback is the beach, very rocky and you need shoes. Actually the property is located in a bay and not exactly on the beach. The town of Jaco is old and run down and not too safe at night. Be cautious not to carry expenisve camera equipment and women should carry small handbags, leave your jewelry at home. I beleive they have opened a JW Marriott around Tamirindo, but, I have not stayed there. The other Marriott in in San Jose, very nice and close to the airport. Last bit of advise, do not rent a car, hire one with a driver, in recent years there have been quite a few robberies of tourists visiting CR who have rented cars. I have been over 15 times and know my way around, just be careful, you are in a third world poor country.
Stayed in tamarindo jw Marriott in March. Loved it! My wife and I go somewhere every feb or march. The only headup I is that it is a bit remote. You need to rent a car to get there. It is on a very large hacienda. There are multiple restaurants on site, but there are also several nice places a short drive 6 7 miles away in the town of tamarindo.
We walked every day about 35 min down the beach to Lolas. About 1.5 miles away (wear or bring shoes as there are rocks to cross). At high tide there is a challenge crossing the estuary but the rest of the time is is not an issue. Worth the walk or a short ride in a shuttle. Lolas is on the beach, the food is very good and less than at the resort. The resort is magnificent, and very relaxing. Town is a short 6 or 7 miles or so that includes a dirt road. The drive from the airport is mostly ok but there is astrip of 5 miles or so that is a rough gravel road before the last 5 miles that is paved
We just spent a week at Los Sueonos and I must say it was a real pleasure! I can't say enough about the staff at the hotel having stayed in a lot of Ritz Carlton's I would put this staff and service up against any Ritz! The food is pricey but not as compared to other resort properties but it was excellent. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to an ocean front suite. Played golf really enjoyed the course lots of wild life and the pro shop was outstanding. Marriott should be very proud to have this property under their banner. We did go into Jaco one day just to see the area. Should have stayed at the pool. The marina adjacent to property is outstanding and also has great dining.
yes the beach is volcanic rock and not very nice, walk on only with shoes, but the pool is great! The beach in Jaco is really nice so if we you want to spend a day at the beach the hotel wiill shuttle you there. I also recommend ver strongly using the transportation service at the hotel for your transfer from the hotel. The airport is a niget mare when you come out of customs. Swiss travel made it very smooth plus by paying a couple of bucks extra they will meet you right after immigration. The driver will point out interest along the way. The roads at some places are very narrow with a lot of traffic. The hotels grounds are great!
