Here in the California desert there are plenty of Italian restaurants, mostly the checkered table cloth variety with red sauce everywhere.
One exception is Amici Trattoria, located just across the highway from the Ferrari, Bentley and Rolls Royce showrooms but in the Fiat 500 price range. That in itself is amazing for Rancho Mirage, second most tony place in the Coachella Valley. (Indian Wells wins that one)
Amici is a great neighborhood bar and dining room with homemade Italian dishes that make sense both gastronomically and economically. Jack, the owner, seems to always be there and has one of those memories for names and faces we all wish we had.
So after buying that Ferrari F-50 just drive across CA 111 and have a substantial Italian feast at Ford prices.
