I mentioned in an earlier message that the Renaissance at St Pancras International Station in London had opened in March this year. The revamp of this massive Gothic building took around 20 years and cost estimates vary between £200 and 800 million.
Vistors to London might like to note that next Thursday, 138 years to the day since the Hotel first opened, the Gilbert Scott Restaurant will open. Even if you belive only 10% of the pre-launch hype, it is a stunning building - possibly the most dramatic in all London. The style is that of an English-style brasserie (appropriate to it being the UK end of the Eurostar rail link to Europe) and the menu is full of comforting-sounding dishes, often with a north English ring to them, such as Yorkshire fishcakes, Lancashire Hotpot, baked onions, pease pudding jugged steakand, to follow, Manchester tart!
The Chef, Marcus Wareing, understudied to Ramsay (but is not quite as voluble!), before opening his own Michelin 2 Star Restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel.
If you feel a little bored, and in need of some sustenance, it might be worth a visit. - if only to look:-)
