I have stayed in Marriott properties about 700 nights. My current stay is near the top for the worst stay so far. First room was loud (next to the stair door, barking dog in room below), smelled funny, and the toilet didn't flush. Any one of them I might have dealt with. Asked for a different room. I did get a different room, but had to be a bit pushy about it. So I started feeling a bit put out. Monday morning, at BFast, I asked where the USA Today stack was. It is in the Market Place for sale. I don't think I have been in a Marriott that didn't provide newspapers of some sort. There was some confusion about my stay using Rewards points. I originally reserved 5 nights for 60K points. (Pointsaver 5 for 4) I changed the reservation to 4 nights and it stayed 60K points. Upon checking in, I asked, if it was going to cost 60K points either way, could I stay the extra night again. The front desk person said the cost was always 15K points per night, and it would never be different. I said it was different to start with. After several rounds back and forth, she would check. But she didn't.
So, bad room, no newspaper, and staff that don't do what they say they will. My recommendation: If you have to stay in north Phoenix, find another location.
Have not been to that property to stay but there are plenty of others local that are WAY better just from the sounds of it. Sorry you had such bad luck but next time try the full service Marriott one exit farther down :)
