I have stayed at La Concha (Renaissance), Marriott, and Courtyard - Isla Verde. Both La Concha and Marriott are in Condado area just outstide old San Juan. My experience is La Concha has a younger chic crowd and most of the rooms have ocean view - my first choice. Marriott is very popular, more families here. Both have nice pools. Courtyard - Isla Verde is older, but very close to airport.
We stayed at La Concha Rennaisance Hotel in December. Rates were a little more reasonable than the other Marriott Resort/casino which was just a couple blocks down the beach. In-room Wifi was also complimentary at this one. We had a great time and a very memorable meal in the "shell." The more inland properties are cheaper, but it was quite special to sleep with the window open in an oceanfront room!
We also decided to use a city bus (just out front) for a day of exploring Old San Juan, instead of a rental car. Both of these beach front Marriott properties have a parking fee and we saved a bit on a rental car.

Can anyone recommend a relaxing location to spend a long weekend for our upcoming 10th anniversary? We'll be traveling from Boston in late September/early October. We love the Carribean but I worry about hurricane season that time of year.
