My husband and I were surprised to find out that not even our Platinum Elite level of over 400 nights could get us a room at the new Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas! We tried to reserve Dec 29-Jan 3 and were told we were put on a waiting list and to call back to check on our progress. When we called back, I was told there is no such thing as a waiting list!
We are not sure why the Marriott Platinum agent lied to us, but now we are upset and discouraged. Our celebration was ruined.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get a room with a situation such as this?
We would appreciate it!

The hotel will have just opened (Dec 15th)
It is the only Marriott on the strip if you don't count the Grande time share.
You want to be ther 2 weeks after it opens and also on New Years Eve which is one of the busiest weekends in Vegas,
I am sorry but it is not going to happen on points regardless of you Rewards status.
I suggest if you want to be close to the strip - go to the Renaissance on Paradise. If you are renting a car - go to the JW in Summerlin which is an awesome hotel with great suite upgrades for Platinum members.
I agree --- good advice.
Keep in mind that once a hotel has booked its allocation of MR rooms, you very likely will not be able to get in. So to speak --- when its gone, its gone.
The 48-hour Platinum override - if that is what you mean - applies to standard rooms at the hotel's cash rack rate, not using MR points.
Anytime you plan to use MR points during holidays or other typically busy times, it is best to make your reservations as far in advance as possible. E.G., when I make my Palm Desert Christmas reservations in April each year, I am never disappointed.
I vote for the Renaissance as well and their suite upgrades for PPs as well. Great hotel with great food and drink, no casinos, but an easy cab ride to Wynn and the strip. All in all, a great alternative to the frenetic pace of the main drag, the strip. Plus, unlike most of Vegas, it is non-smoking!
