Bait and Switch

Mariott Grand Cayman is pulling a classic Bait/Switch. We reserved the room here for our Thanksgiving using the "Power of Ten" promotion, and were assured by the central reservation agent, with whom my wife spent 45 minutes on the phone, that he had contacted the Grand Cayman facility and had verified the rate with them.

Well, guess what... "Oh sorry that rate is impossible" were the words with which we were greeted on arrival.

Any suggestions?

    Suggest that if you have the record of the name of the person you talked with and the printed confirmation email that shows that rate, you email customer care at Marriott.  There should not be a rate change unless you made a date change after the reservation is confirmed

    thanks for the input

    yes we have the email confirmation, with a confirmation number, and the "power of 10" rate listed on it("based on availability"). no, we do not have the name of the agent, but i bet mariott reservations can get it.

    we are working with the on-site hotel manager, but it is not a "fun thing to do" while vacationing in the caymans. will pay up, it seems, under protest, and then try to deal with it when we get home.

    i cannot see a way to email customer care at mariott.com... 

    anyone has a link??

    Always get your rate, dates and etc. documented when you make your reservation.  E mail is a good way.  Print out your reservation info and bring with you to the property.  Mistakes can occur but when you have the documentation to prove your rate the property will always comply.

    Very unfortunate, sorry to hear about this experience during the Thanksgiving holiday.  Using Google, Yahoo or Bing, search "power of ten" "marriott.com" "cayman".  There are many articles citing the promotion with Marriott Grand Cayman included.  Unfortunately, the original promo on Marriott.com is no longer available nor is a Press Release.  Given the articles are in the public domain, I think that Marriott management should resolve this quickly.  Good luck.

    I am happy to say that the manager here, Mr. Luis G. saw the light and has provided us with the rate as agreed to the time of the reservation, or has told us he will do so.
