Hosted by Sheraton Houston, the 1st Frequent Traveler Awards convened last week on November 4th. Marriott Rewards received 8 awards in 7 categories substantially outperforming both IHG Priority Club and Hilton HHonors.
It was not a clean sweep. Starwood Preferred Guest received the award for Best Elite-Level Program and American Express walked away with Best Loyalty Credit Card. Missing the top spot very narrowly, Marriott deserves kudos for placing second in these categories. Finally, Hyatt Gold Passport received the Loyalty Leadership Award.
Although this is the first year for Frequent Traveler Awards, and these awards pick up where the Freddie Awards left off, several gaps undermine FTA credibility, IMO. Awards and competitive innovation go hand-in-hand to a certain extent. With frequent flyers and road warriors constantly on the move, hopefully awards for 'Best Web Site', 'Best Mobile App' and 'Best Customer Service' are in the pipeline.
