Last night was the last home game of the season and die-hard baseball fans came out to cheer their team on to the finals at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
After a week of seasonably high, hot and dry weather, the evening was cloudy and cool. Fans in the stadium enjoyed a gentle breeze which turned into a drizzle towards the 8th inning. Into the 10th inning, expectations were high that the Pinstripes from the Bronx would celebrate victory. The fans roared as the Yankees delivered and beat their rivals, the Boston Red Sox guaranteeing an extended opportunity to enjoy baseball for post season games.
We love to head to the Bronx on a Sunday because the street parking is free (if you know where to look and are willing to walk). The atmosphere is always charged with expectations, it's actually quite exhilirating. We also like to arrive early to enjoy the neighborhood around the stadium. At 161st St is the NYC elevated subway and 161st is a local artery lined with shops, bodegas, delis, diners, bars and souvenir shops. New York's Finest, the NYPD are visible and everywhere. When a crowd of 50,000 + residents, tourists, visitors and celebrities descend upon the Bronx, NYPD must be there - after all they are fans too.
Congratulations to the Pinstripes from the Bronx for last night's victory. We look forward to an exciting post-season. A road trip to enjoy post-season baseball in New York is grand. There's always so much to do. Marriott offers more than 100 hotels within an hour of Yankee Stadium. Public transportation from your hotel to The Bronx is affordable, safe and convenient.
