Yesterday, September 11th, the "little fishing village" of Chatham on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, hosted a remembrance of that day and the events that transpired. Hosted by the Chatham Fire and Police Departments with a raft of Cub and Boy Scouts who helped in presenting flags to the first responders.
This is the second year that I have seen this moving ceremony. A firefighter read an essay that he has written about the events of 9/11, then rang a fire bell in commemoration of all lives lost that day.
Maybe it's my imagination but each of these men and women stand a little taller during the ceremony, some lost in thought about loved ones who gave all in service to others.
Taps was played, salutes were given, a day was remembered. May we never forget their sacrifice.
