I've recently come back from my "once in a lifetime" trip. Egypt! What an incredible country! What unbelievable history!
We started each day stepping out onto our private balcony on the 19th floor at the Cairo Marriott to absorb the view. Every morning we saw the Nile immediately to our left, the beautiful hotel pool and grounds directly below us and yes, the top of one of the pyramids in the distance to the right. We went to those ancient pyramids and they were the backdrop as we rode our camels. We explored the massive Egyptian Museum and took in as much as our minds could handle. We went to the bazaar and haggled with the vendors. We escaped being run down by the crazy drivers as we crossed streets to explore interesting shops and restaurants. We were exposed to more and more of Egypt's long history by walking through temples and tombs that have been and continue to be painstakingly excavated and restored. The locations of many, many more ancient buildings and statues are known but they are kept safely under the sand until such time they have the funds to revive them. Fascinating! It's difficult to truly convey the majesty that is Eygpt.
And as we finished each long, hot, but exhilarating day we retreated to our balcony to view the lights and the night time scene. Until quite late, we would take in the Nile to our left, the hotel grounds below and the pyramid...well, it was not visible at night, but it would certainly show itself in the morning.
