Marriott usually structures their point promotions by offering xx bonus points for staying yy nights during the promotion period (usually three months), but there is "partial credit" if you are only able to stay fewer nights. Marriott used to require you to pay for your nights using VISA, but not lately.
Maybe closer to the green stamp model, but I like it.

What a great throwback to yesteryear! As one of 8 kiddos living in a one bedroom house and an attic barracks (with no heat!) in MA, I can remember my mother at the store with sheets and sheets of green stamps she would get and wondering what it was all about....and what all the interest was about getting them. But, here I am today doing pretty much the same thing except I'm traveling with my rewards instead of burning toast!! Thanks for the memory!
