My fiancee and I stayed at this Marriott property Aug 4-19, 2009. At the time, she was using a cane, since she had fractured her femur and was recovering from surgery (May).
The hotel staff and especially Bianca, the concierge, could not have been nicer ... we had a ground level room, no stairs, and special attention as needed to get around. We used the pool and whirlpool for her hydrotherapy.
For this stay we had a rental car and wandered the island. National Park, Aquarium, restaurants, in town for the synagogue, shopping, various restaurants. Wonderful stay ... we are planning a return visit, with my 17 year old son and with a much more mobile fiancee, but haven't decided between a return to the Marriott or staying at the newer and more convenient to town Renaissance. Recent posts suggest the Marriott may be quieter, more relaxing, and have more to do for my son (the PADI 5* scuba center is at the Marriott; the Renaissance has a pool and beach, but no such center).
Would recommend you take a full-day island tour. Gives you a great overview and lets you then decide where you want to go back to for more time ...
This is a wonderful island and a wonderful resort. We would agree with other posters, who have noted that the maintenance on this property could be improved. We heard Marriott was trying to either condo or Time Share this property to raise the funds for updating. Shame on you, Marriott -- this is a gem and you need to bring it up to specs!
