No Platinum Recognition At Marriott Resorts

We enjoy staying at Marriott Resorts after earning points. We are finding out that MOST Resorts do not recognize Platinum status at all.  It would be nice if the Marriott Resorts would give at least, free breakfasts maybe 4 times during a 7 day stay.  After earning all these points it would be nice to be appreciated at the Marriott Resorts too.

Las Vegas JW use to give you free breakfast, upgrade to a two bedroom suite, if available and one pass to the spa daily.  Now they do not give you an upgrade to a two bedroom suite, even if it is available, they classed it differently.   They no longer give you free breakfast.  We use to go to this resort, for these two very specific reasons.  We were very impressed with how they were different from the other Marriott Resorts, in treating their members with the Marriott platinum status earnings.   Rewards make such a difference!

We have called many Marriott resorts and they all say, we do not recognize platinum or gold status. I am wondering why?  This should be a place where Marriott could shine and say "thank you" to their loyal customers.  My husband I and have been asking each other if it is worth just staying with Marriott as a loyal member to Marriott chain, or if we should try other chains too.  It is frustrating to get zero recogination at the Marriott Resorts where they should give at least the same rewards you receive at a Marriott Hotel.  Marriott Resorts would generate even better standings with their customers if they did.

If the Marriott Resorts gave free breakfasts as the Marriott or Renaissance Hotels do, I am sure they would have an influx of happy returning customers! Reasons to stay loyal to Marriott hotel chain seems to becoming slim if the members are not given the perks like conceirge lounge, free breakfasts and free upgrades that they feel are worth staying for, even more so at the Resorts.

Marriott could endure their loyal members by just adding free breakfasts, spa access and free upgades to their Platinum and Gold members at the Marriott Resorts!

I agree but as long as I can remember resorts have been excluded from most promotions offered by Marriott Rewards, sadly.

Case by case, I have been given an upgrades by a resort but that's the exception rather than the rule.

I also agree, but I am not at all surprised.  As I have stated several times on this board, the number of ugrades I have received in the past 2 years (over 200 night) could be counted on one hand.

Not extending complimentary breakfasts at resorts I understand - there are no concierge lounges at resorts and resorts are not intended to be "business" hotels.

However, I am wondering what your definition of "upgrade" is.    I am almost always accorded what I define to be an upgrade ---- which is a room with a better view, configuration, size or amenities (such as an in-room whirlpool, etc.).   In my experience, "upgrades" most often are not suites ---- although that happens to me on perhaps 5% of my checkins.

Countryjim   - that's a good point!  However, for example, if room 117 has a nightly rate of $299, and room 217 has the same nightly rate but a better view, I don't consider being moved to room 217 upon arrival an upgrade. Frankly, I would EXPECT that.  Further, an amenity upgrade, ie free breakfast, free movies, free parking, would all be condiv=dered upgrades in my mind due to the fact the VALUE of those additions can be quantified.  Don't get me wrong, I would appreciate the move to the better view.

My resort batting average for upgrades to suites or larger view rooms is round 50%, depending on occupancy and rooms control personnel. Where we stay most often we're flagged as VIPs and get things without asking most times.

Not s guarantee but a nice surprise when it happens

This is so timely for me...my family and I are vacationing on points in Aruba (Marriott Stellaris) next month for one week.  I am dreading a bit the check in process; in the past on our points trips I've felt like there was a secret code or game that I wasn't aware of for upgrades.  I'd love for Marriott to give upgrades for points stays if they are available, instead of the current seemingly random 'award' of an upgrade to a few or the extra fee per night that seems to change depending on who you talk to at the front desk.  If upgrades aren't available because the rooms aren't (not because I don't know the code), I'm okay with being told that.  I just hate the games.

I am like many of you.  An upgrade to me when traveling with my family is a little more room--doesn't have to be a suite but more floor space!

Make sure you stay on the left side of the ARUBA MARRIOTT STELLARIS!!! They are building a RITZ CARLTON on the right side. I don't know if ground has been broken....but check.  When I say "left side" I mean as you walk into the hotel....stay on the left side.

By the way....my upgrade was a joke at Stellaris when I was there. Really a joke.  I insisted on a room change after the 2nd day. That was a hassle with 3 boys!!!  They put us in a room over Ruths Chris garbage dumpster....from 9:30 till 1am we heard wine bottles being thrown into the garbage. I said if this was the upgrade......where in God's name were you going to put us?????

neuroempire  -  thanks for your frank comments regarding your stay in Aruba.  Specific information, both good and bad, is valuable to all of us who might consider using the property.  Just out of curiosity, room situation aside, did you enjoy your vacation ion Aruba?

Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

I sent my wife & her best friend to this resort last June as a mini de-stress weekend on points. they came back raving about this property and how well they were treated. They received an upgraded room at that time. it was not larger but was on a higher floor than expected and had an unobstructed ocean view. included are two views from the balcony

I am disappointed in the way MR Elite members (a lowly Gold member)  are treated at what Marriott deems "resort" properties.  There is rarely a concierge lounge for bottled water vs. the $8 bottle in the room.  (We went to the local Wally World and bought a case of water for the week in Kauai for $4 )  No free breakfast (instead we were treated to a cup of attitude along with a crappy bagel for $3.00), no free internet access, etc.  Frankly, there is very little reason to be an elite member and stay at the resort properties. I travel the globe for work and try to stay loyal to the brand for the rewards, but there are little things like this that make me wonder if the Marriott team thinks before they enact some policies.
