You have made a wise choice!
Construction of the hotel should be done and its in a fantastic location.
For a very good, wood grilled meal, try Madre Maria. A short walk from the hotel and for 10 Eu, you will get a fantastic meal. Not fancy, but very pleasant, with music.
The boat trips vary in price, and are nice and interesting. Likewise, Ann Frank's place is really worth it!
Have a good one.
You can take the train from the airport to the main train station and walk a few blocks to the Ren. (If you don't have too much luggage).
You will want to be careful around the train station as well as where you exchange money!
Good luck, and send some pictures!
There are a couple nice restaurants right across the street from the hotel. The one that's "less touristy" is the one that is off the street about a quarter of a block.
You will be in a good location for exploring A'dam, and particularly if you have not been to the city before, you will want to take one of the canal boat tours. You can walk to the dock which is the starting point for the tours from the Renaissance. Also, be sure to go to the outdoor flower market: I think it is the largest anywhere, and sets the prices for the world flower market. It is something to see and very colorful. Enjoy your trip!
I spent more than a year at this property on business. After its refurb, its great and has a nice CL open 7 days. Tip: as for an inside or odd numbered room, these are noticably quieter than those round the outside.
For a resaturant the BelHamel is a 5 monute walk away (turn right from the hotel) and is really good typically Dutch. Another nice one is Vivf Fligen (not sure on spelling!) (5 flys).
