Currently SPG points transferred to MR do not count towards Lifetime Status progress in MR.
Any opinions that they may count towards lifetime in the 2018 program when SPG and MR are merged? I've got 40k orphaned points in SPG. Wishful thinking that if I hold out to 2018 they'll add to my lifetime tally inside the new program?
Penny for your thoughts.
They're going to change the requirements in 2018. Not sure if it is going to be harder to achieve but told if you achieve Lifetime Status in either program, that will be recognized and you won't lose that.
I imagine that points will eventually combine at the rate that they've already determined when transferring between accounts. I also imagine the unlimited transfer opportunities is one of the reasons why they don't count in Lifetime Status yet.
What I'm curious about is if we split our stays in 2017 between SPG and Marriott if that will get you status with combined stays. As of right now, they aren't making an incentives in alternating between properties other than getting bonus points using respective credit cards; e.g. Marriott Chase card gets 5x points at SPG properties.
solkua If you split your stays between Marriott and SPG they will NOT combine your nights for purposes of determining your elite status. You must achieve your status with one or the other in 2017. I'm sure this will change when the programs are combined in 2018.
