I'm curious if other Insider's have favorite Airport Hotels (Marriott + SPG) for those early morning flights.

Here are some of my favorites:

ATL-  Atlanta Airport Marriott GatewayExcellent Full Service property.  No shuttle needed.  Take SkyTrain between Airport & hotel.  A new Renaissance property next door is expected to open in April 2017.

BUR- Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Hotel- Across street from Airport, always clean & comfortable.  Great Staff.

DCA- Renaissance Arlington Capital View- Excellent Full Service property with good Club lounge. Quick & Reliable Shuttle Service.

IAD- Westin DullesOne of the best full service properties near Dulles, Quick & reliable airport Shuttle.

IAD- Residence Inn Dulles 28 Centre-  Excellent Cat 2 property for Point Stays with Airport Shuttle Option

LAX- Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel- Quiet Hotel with an excellent Club Lounge.  Quick & reliable airport shuttle service.

RIC- Courtyard Richmond Airport-  Older property but clean and quiet.  Reliable shuttle service.  Best perk is free parking for 2 weeks with each stay at hotel (Paid or Points).

Ditto on the Ren at LAX.

In ATL I prefer the Ren Concourse, but have used the full service Marriotts very near the airport.

    At Hartford there's a Sheraton.

For PHL the Marriott attached to the airport is great.

    Hi vaboywnder,

Great post and info, and I actually do!

LAX - Hotels El Segundo | Courtyard Los Angeles LAX/El Segundo Yes, believe it or not, though I have been very vocal in the past about not staying at Courtyards because of the loathsome Bistro concept, this is an excellent property for early morning flights.  Reasonably priced (including parking), comfortable beds, suite upgrades when available and complimentary, dependable shuttle service to the airport (with smaller shuttle crowds than the Airport Marriott and Ren.)  They will also shuttle guests to other locations within 3 miles. Last visit, the breakfast rate was just a little more than the regular rate, and the breakfast was good, and they were open on time and provided efficient service.

LHR - London Heathrow Airport 4-Star Hotels | Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel.  An AV Geek's delight for runway watching and plane spotting.  Reasonably priced, easy to get to and from the airport (free bus) or very inexpensive by taxi.  Good CL and friendly, good service.

DCA - Like vaboy , the Arlington Capital View property would be my first choice, with it's stylish design and excellent runway watching from the CL, along with comp shuttle service, but also both the Hotels in Arlington, VA | Crystal City Marriott at Reagan National Airport  and the Crystal City Hotels Washington, DC | Crystal Gateway Marriott  will also do nicely, often offering some excellent deals (under $100), providing shuttle service as well.

ORY - Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel  Although 7 miles form Orly airport, I would actually consider this a very doable property for an early morning flight out of ORY, as it is situated right along the RERB line with easy, fast (20 mins) access to the airport by either train or the Orly bus, which stops at Denfert-Rochereau.

MUC - Hotel Near Munich Airport in Freising | Munich Airport Marriott Hotel Ha ha, while this is an excellent property that provides perhaps some of the best service I have ever received at a Marriott (no kidding) along with outstanding food and drink (sorry, no CL, but they make up for it with both morning and evening vouchers) and is located in a very quaint, delightful German town with an interesting history, and I should add amazing pricing, it should really be considered an airport property in name only, as it really isn't convenient to the airport (20€ taxi ride).  A more convenient, though budget option that now exists would be the new Munich Airport budget and lifestyle Hotel - Moxy Hotel Munich , though a strange breed, equipped with a community "ironing" room, wait, what?

SAN - Liberty Station Hotel – Marriott San Diego Hotels near the San Diego Airport, Hotel Suites in San Diego, CA | San Diego, CA Suites Hotel  and Residential Hotel San Diego | Hotels Downtown San Diego CA all have complimentary shuttle service, though it is important to note that San Diego is one of the easiest American cities to navigate via public transportation, including to/from the airport, as it has some of the best transit systems in the American West.

II'll never do Lhr Renaissance again. Found bed bugs in my first room. Second room was ok but even so, my policy is one and done for a hotel

I tend not to stay near the airport when I'm out of town. The night before and early morning flight is a different story. Out of CMH, I usually stay at the Columbus Airport Marriott Hotel or the Fairfield Inn & Suites Columbus Airport. The latter is right on the airport property while the former is just offsite. Airport shuttle and decent Park here, Fly there rates at either property. The full service Marriott has an M Lounge which is open 24 hours, so even before breakfast is available, it is possible grab something to eat. The FFI breakfast is sometimes set up by 5am though the posted time is 6am. Even before 5 fruit and cereal are often accessible.

I'm afraid my experience of airport Marriott's is very limited. So instead I'll just list the ones I've stayed at:

Houston IAH - Marriott North. Not on airport but extra-cheap rates and free reliable shuttle make this a goody

London LGW - This is a CY. Very good for a CY, on-airport but a bit of a hike with big bags. £3 bus

London LHR - The Renaissance. One of the best lounges in the world. Great value for money. My favourite

Newark EWR - The Renaissance, off airport but considerably cheaper than the on-airport Marriott. 2nd favourite

Prague PRG - On airport a 2 minute walk to terminal. Like the LGW CY, well above the usual CY standards

Toronto YYZ  - Straightforward on-spec Marriott. Nothing special but does exactly as required

    vaboywnder,

Ren LAX - great - kids are still raving about the chocolate cake in the on site restaurant

DFW Marriott South - good, with a shuttle - enjoyed the restaurant there, too

CLT Renaissance Suites - great service, a nice restaurant, a good shuttle, all suites

JW Minneapolis - new hotel beautiful décor - service could use a little improvement - easy train ride from airport

Marriott MSP - shuttle, good service, older property but usually quite a bit cheaper than JW

But my favorite of all is:

Marriott TPA - nice remodeled property, great service, great airport, very convenient location inside the terminal

Thoughtful post vaboywnder. Good stuff by you, as always.

Now when you say favorite, I'll qualify my answer to mean a hotel that meets my needs of travel value; like you write, either an early flight out or a late flight in at a good price and often moving my flight to a day which saves me far more valuable frequent flyer miles on the cost of my award flight.

I don't necessarily mean favorite in a superb stay like you always have at the Vaboy Wing at the Marriott Burbank (I believe next to Bob Hope, you are the property's favorite all time guest , they told me they were thinking of putting your photo next to the JW and Bill portrait ).

    I'm in strong agreement with many, many of the hotels others have contributed (especially that Dulles Westin with their park and fly deals). The DC airports have disproportionately excellent alternatives at manageable rates and although it's tough to beat the superb Cat. 2 Residence Inn, here are others that can do the job also;

Marriott Dulles - Still only a Cat. 5 - these rooms are often $300 weeknight - good $ value weekend - pts. otherwise

proximity makes for very quick, reliable shuttle

Fairfield Dulles - Cat. 2 and great (as in as low as $64) weekend rates and unlike many airport properties today -

breakfast starts at 5 am (Cracker Barrel next door for dinner if necessary for non-car lodgers)

SpringHill Dulles - Cat. 2 - does the job comfortably at a good value

Dulles Suites -  a bit further down the toll road, but great weekend prices and something to do if arriving at dinner

w/o car - movies, restaurants all attached - great gym and a rare outdoor pool

ResInn Pentagon City - for DCA/Reagan - still a Cat. 5, a well run property

Crystal City Marriotts (DCA) - either one - both often offer weekend rates below $100

SpringHill BWI - on my rare BWI departures, twice I have been able to find excellent Park/Fly values

(but remember, I'm usually 9-11 months out, so may be hard for normal folks )

Renaissance Suites - O'Hare ORD - Cat. 5 - this may qualify as my Burbank - Take the train in/out of city

SpringHill O'Hare - this offers excellent weekend $ prices - has Outback on site and restaurants walking

again, easy access to train to city (both ORD properties have reliable shuttles to ORD)

Fairfield MSY - Kenner La. Cat 3 weeknights - $ weekends - does the job, saving UA miles Friday night

Residence Inn - Toronto - good for night arrivals good value, nice property, stuff nearby (for car/uber)

and closing, I had a nice overnight at Renaissance International Plaza - TPA over holidays - $84

Lol...you always have the BEST responses!   You are totally right about the Dulles Westin Park-N-Fly deals when you can get them.  Although I have to admit I'm not really a fan of the Marriott Dulles Suites property.  The hotel itself is clean and the staff is friendly but the suites are TINY and crowded. Just finding a spot to rest your suitcase can be a challenge.  Also I found the beds at that property are not as comfortable as some other Marriotts.

In February I'm going to burn a Cat 5 cert and give the Res Inn Pentagon City a try for the first time.  eclektech and I are flying to Nashville to visit some of his family.  I've heard lots of good things about that property.  Who knows it could become my new favorite for DCA.

Yes...the Burbank Marriott always takes good care of me.  Every time I've stayed there they have given me free parking and many times an upgrade to a suite. Definitely a fave.

On your next trip to Toronto...you should try Porter Airlines. Can't be that direct flight from Dulles to Billy Bishop!

Philadelphia Airport Hotel | Philadelphia Airport Marriott is my favorite U.S. airport hotel.  Lois runs a splendid bar in the lobby and Nathan is a true master of his craft in the CL upstairs.  Been there many times and never disappointed.

Munich Hotels | Hilton Munich Airport | Munich, BY is a wonderful spot to spend the night before a flight to the U.S. the next morning.  Formerly a Kempinski Hotel have stayed there twice with each time enjoying the entire stay.  No airplane noise at all and a few second walk to the train to downtown and the airport terminal.

A great topic.  I second the motions for the LAX Ren and Burbank Airport Marriott, and would add that I found the Marriott at the Mexico City airport a good last night place to stay, as the hotel directly connects with the airport lobbies, making departures easy.
