Versailles restaurant in Little Havana in Miami is a great place to dine. It is filled with folks whose memories of Cuba go back decades or months, and whose culture has been transplanted to this little corner of Florida. Located at 3555 SW 8th street, the place has no web site, but a huge following.
The old Cuba, pre-1959, dominates the Restaurant. Men dressed formally, women in pearls and fine dresses, children at tables quietly enjoying a meal. Soft Cuban music wafts through but it not loud or offensive. Smiles on faces, happy times remembered.
I had Ropa Vieja (shredded beef) and my wife Lechon (pork) with Mojo. Both excellent, and less than 15 dollars each.
Wait staff are very attentive, the food is ample, and best of all the prices are very reasonable. If you happen by the adjacent Versailles bakery you'll be tempted to buy a little something for the road, even after a large meal. Most items are under two dollars, even tres leches, which is an amazing desert.
