Should I stick with Marriott brands or switch to SPG brands?
I'm Platinum level with Marriott already. I will have about 90-100 nights by end-of-year. With 2.5 months remaining, do you recommend that I start staying at SPG properties to increase my SPG Platinum Lite status? Or does it make more sense to continue concentrate all my stays at Marriott brands? The places where I stay have hotels from both, so I have a good choice of hotels.
I'd like to know what others are doing after the Marriott/SPG merger.
Thanks for any advice.
keplertracker, this is a question that has been asked, and answered, in a number of different ways in recent threads. It is really dependent on what is most important to you. Are you close to achieving a lifetime status? If so, that has been deemed a significant consideration by a number of your fellow loyal Marriott Insiders. Stays with SPG will not count toward your lifetime status pursuits with Marriott. If you don't have comparable lifetime status with SPG, you will be losing out on those valuable nights if you don't spend them with Marriott. There has been no indication at this point as to what Marriott will do with those SPG who have obtained lifetime status, save for the fact that they have declared the programs separate and that crossover nights will not count toward the lifetime in the opposite program. So, just how close are you to SPG lifetime status? Closer than Marriott? Not as close? It really makes sense to pursue the status you are closest to...given what we do know at this point. If you may hit your next lifetime milestone with Marriott in the next 15-16 months, then it's probably best to continue to stay at Marriott.
