We've been to Paris last fall and stayed at Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel. The location is prime, a block away from le Louvres, few locks away from la Place de la Concorde and Notre-Dame. A dream location. However the rooms are very very small, even for european standards" With 2 luggages in, there wasn't much place left and the bathroom offers no space to put much toileteries in it. Beside's that, the breakfast was great and the staff very polite and helpfull.
If t wasn't for the size of the rooms, this hotel would be perfect. I was given a superior room, I'm afraid to see what a regular room would be like.
Your description is one of the reasons I always stay at the Rive Gauche -- they have luxurious, totally modern rooms -- and at far more reasonable rates. It may seem to be off the beaten path but it's really not because of the very convenient metro and RER stops nearby.
I have stayed there and really like for week-ends, the La Defense Ren.
Like the Professor, who has experience at Rive G., the La Defense is relaxing and close to the metro station with a 10 minute ride to CE.
Like you I really enjoyed the PV property, and frankly, have enjoyed all the locations, but would prefer not to stay at CY.
Thanks for the update.
