The trip from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi is a 3 hour drive that takes you up and out of the Rift Valley through the Kigezi Highlands of Southwestern Uganda. The scenery is increasingly more breathtaking as you switch back and down the hills. The journey culminates at the Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, located in the mist-swathed mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home to just over half of the world's last surviving mountain gorilla population - a mere 700 or so remaining individuals - and we had the opportunity to track two of the habituated family groups. The park also contains over 360 species of birds, 200 species of butterfly and 324 different three species within its exotic rain forest canopy.
