We just recently visited the Renaissance Aix-en-Provence, May 14-20 2016, as our base to tour Provence, and had a fabulous stay!!!
The room was bright and quiet, with a balcony overlooking the town and presenting a great view of Mount Saint Victoire. The hotel and grounds were all spotless, from the restaurant, to the lobby, the fitness center to the garden bar out back. The breakfast, every morning was wonderful, offering a great selection of meats, cheeses, yogurts, breads and pastries, eggs, Nespresso coffee makers, cereals, etc. Great start to the day.
The service? The service was outstanding, everyone was helpful, friendly and efficient. I would, however, like to recognize two individuals in particular, who made our stay that much more exceptional - Navigators Jakob and Julien - and nominate them both for the Spirit to Serve Award. I communicated with Jakob in advance of our stay, to request his assistance with dinner reservations and getting recommendations on itinerary ideas. He was responsive, gave us some great ideas we hadn't considered (and we are very serious advanced planners), and continued to support us with answers and suggestions throughout our stay. He knows the area very well, and steered us toward several great side trips - in particular a day in Cassis, as well as side trips to St Remy and Les Baux following our morning in Arles, and a visit to Villa Baulieu vineyard and winery for a tour and tasting.
Julien was there to greet us upon our arrival, helped us get oriented with a map of the area, showing us the way to our dinner that evening. He then gathered our things, took us to our room and gave us a very thorough introduction to our room and how everything worked. I don't know how else to describe him other than he was kind and friendly. He was also there to see us off, closing out an awesome week, leaving as we arrived, on a high note.
Though everyone there provided great service and treated us like special guests, these two gentlemen stood out - gracious hosts, friendly, and very happy to help. We look forward to the opportunity to visit the Renaissance Aix-en-Provence again and greatly appreciate Jakob and Julien's efforts to make our stay so special. The hotel and Marriott are fortunate to have individuals like these two representing their brand!!
