Curacao Hotel Recommendation

We're planning a trip to Curacao in November, 2016 for our 10th wedding anniversary and we're considering staying at the "Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino" (versus the Renaissance Curacao Resort and Casino).  I'm interested in hearing any feedback, PRO or CON, about this resort.  Also if anybody got upgraded based on their Marriott Rewards status (I am GOLD).

Thank you in advance for your time.

    Hi danar,

Here are some threads from where members have discussed Curacao locations:

    Renaissance Curacao

Renaissance Marriott Curacao - a big piece of heaven.

Hopefully this helps. We'll see if more Insiders chime in on this thread to give you some pointers!

Thanks - I'm not really interested in reading about the Renaissance (which are mostly what you posted).  Only about recent trips to the Marriott.

I lived on Curacao and am a regular visitor. The Renaissance hotel is newer and is part of a new renovated area of Willemstad next to an old fort that is now a mall and the new cruise terminal. It is the only hotel on Curacao that is in downtown (so yo do not need a car) and have a beach at the same time. Well actually not a real beach. It is a pool, that looks like a beach.

The hotel has the best location regarding food, entertainment, shops, cinema etc on walking distance. However you will have no problems with parking or traffic.

Be careful when booking the cheapest room, an inside room. If you are not upgraded you will get a room without windows (or with window to the hallway).

The Emerald is a very beautiful hotel, only a few miles away. It is next to the Hilton and across the world trace center. You will need a car, as it is not in walking distance of downtown anymore. However the beach is nicer (and actually a real beach), the hotel is bigger and the hotel has a very nice pool. The rooms need to be updated a bit, but the grounds are beautiful.

None of the hotels have an executive lounge. Both hotels you will have a decent change to get an upgrade to an ocean view room. If you plan to have a car I would recommend Emerald. Otherwise Renaissance.
