New York Times Square stay with points

I am Platinum status and am planning a stay in New York in a couple weeks using points.  I will be bringing my family (2 teens) and wanted to know what my platinum status would get me.  How successful have any of you been in getting upgraded because of your status?  Does Platinum status get you anything else like free breakfast there?  I am thinking of staying near Times Square and wondered which hotel would be the best to stay at.  Also, if we are flying into LGA, should we use the bus/subway, take a cab or use Uber?  Thank you for any feedback!!

gone2maui, LGA is close in so cabs are quick and not expensive.  $25 or so, and fares are regulated.  There is no subway service to or from any of the NY-area airports.  I am not sure if Uber is allowed in to LGA.  My Uber experiences in NY tended to be more expensive than cabs partly because of surge pricing (i.e. Uber costs more during certain hours and in rainy weather, etc.).  However, cabbies aren't keen on credit cards in NY, so be aware that you might be told to pay in cash.

My favorite NY hotel is Essex House on Central Park South, but if you want Times Square and free breakfast, Marriott Marquis will be your best choice.  Plus, Marquis has larger rooms and sofa sleepers so it's the logical choice for traveling with teens.  Upgrades at that hotel would be rooms on a higher floor and/or better view, but probably not a suite.  There is a CL that has complementary breakfast, along with snacks and evening fare and desserts, but not sure you'll get the whole family in there.  They hand out a black CL key and it's monitored by a doorman.  I think the rule is MR member plus 1 guest, so you might have to eat breakfast in shifts.  The other Times Square hotels don't have CLs and I don't think they offer free breakfast, either, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Thank you for this.  We were thinking of the Marriott Marquis because of location.  Both my husband and I have platinum status, but with only one room stay, I am sure they won't make exceptions to the CL lounge rule.  I am sure it is by room and not how many of us are Platinum.  We were just looking for something simple to get a quick breakfast and get going in the morning without breaking the bank before 8 am.
