We're in Concord, NH for MLK at the Fairfield Inn and overheard the Front Desk making reservations for a restaurant across the street called The Common Man. As we drove in to Fairfield Inn parking lot we could not help but notice that the parking lot of the restaurant was overflowing to capacity. That combined with the FD activity aroused curiosity.
The Common Man is a chain found only in New Hampshire. There was a 90 minute wait for the dining room but the bar and lounge was first come first serve - which suited us fine. From appetizers to dessert, the Common Man truly delivers what I would have to call New Hampshire 'comfort food'. Check out the menu online.
Great dining, affordable prices, casual attire and attentive service. A must try when in Concord, New Hampshire.
Have eaten a few of them, consistant quality food and its really not bad at all. Nice local culture and a very good value seems to be the key. I would recommend it to folks as well if they were looking for something slightly different than the standard chains while on the road in that area :)
We also stayed at the FF and walked next door to the Common Man.
It was really special and we used the FF for stay and then drove to Littleton for a delightful lunch at The DEPOT. Great Black Bean soup, but when I recently called they may have gone out of business.
Thanks for reminding us of a experience.
Littleton is north of Franconia Notch and the White Mountain Forest and home to the Littleton Footbridge, a covered bridge that we look forward to visit. One associate at the FI Hooksett (opened in 2008) hails from there. She mentioned commercial development that caused several places to close. Maybe the Grand Depot Cafe is a casualty?
Last fall, the FD manager at the TownePlace Suites, Gilford suggested we visit Walters Basin Restaurant and Bar in Holderness, NH on Squam Lake. If you're in the area, definitely check it out. Enjoy the waterfront view along with your favorite brew, fresh steamers and haddock. We were hoping to see Squam Lake frozen over and enjoy a lobster dinner there, but the heavy snowfall this trip motivated a second visit to Common Man instead. We look forward to another visit!
Great hotel & restaurant suggestions for New Hampshrie!
