Never done it. Usually do Colorado. But we live in Florida, and thought about somewhere closer. Anywhere around Georgia, Carolinas, Virginia, W. Virginia, etc. with a nearby Marriott property? Maybe somewhere we could drive to with the kids, understanding Spring weather and not Winter. Prefer skiing, but would settle for even just sledding, snowman building, snowball fights, campfire/smores, etc if a cool setting, amenities, things to do and see, etc. Anyone? Thanks!
There are very few Marriott properties on the east coast that are convenient for skiing, and those that exist would be a multi day drive from Florida.
That said, there are two properties that I can recommend:
Residence Inn Mont Tremblant Manoir Labelle and Residence Inn North Conway
I enjoyed the village at Mont Tremblant a great deal and the mountain there, with 2,000 vertical feet, can hold it's own against most of the better destinations in Colorado, assuming that you aren't looking for deep powder. The village has a variety of restaurants, nightlife and shopping. The hotel is a short walk to the lifts.
North Conway is the classic New England ski town. You need to drive to the lifts and the mountain (Mount Cranmore) is not quite major, but it is close. Also, nearby is another (not quite major) Black Mountain and the magnificent Wildcat with scenery unmatched without going to the Alps or Rockies. The town has a great variety of restaurants, nightlife and shopping.
Both areas have nearby excellent cross country skiing.
