I've just recived a spam email to an address I use principally for insiders offering to optimise the Marriott Rewards Insiders site for me! Most kind I'm sure, but I'd think Marriott would be more interested, though who responds to these spammers?
Of far more concern however is how the spammer got an email address I use for little else other than Marriott Insiders, and how did that person then know I was a regular visitor to this site. It all adds up to a possible hack of the insiders site.
Sorry, NathalieF but I do need to ask whether you've suffered a data breach?
Hi, brightlybob. I received the exact same message in my personal email on Nov. 16, except it was from a "Boter Jaes." I sent NathalieF a DM and asked her to please look into it. She did, and got back to me with this reply: "...my IT team...can say for certain that from the Insiders side, Google hasn't indexed your email address and it cannot be searched anonymously as a guest user. We have already taken all necessary precautions to ensure that emails cannot be exposed without the Insider manually posting it into a public piece of content."
Have had no more emails from "Mr. Jaes" or the "Web Audit Team," but I changed both my Marriott and AT&T passwords just to be on the safe side.
Hi brightlybob – thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’m sorry you received spam like this and for the inconvenience it’s caused. We’ve been working behind the scenes the last few hours to ensure this gets in front of the right people, and quickly. We take security and privacy very seriously, and we are evaluating the email you received both internally and externally. What foxglove said above about Google indexing, searching anonymously as a guest user as well as all precautions being in place to not expose your email address still hold true. We will follow up with you in a private message to get more details.
