Just looked at our MR account and see that 2 additional bonus nights just got added--we automatically get 10 bonus nights/year due to our Marriott Reward Visa. While I am thrilled that we got the bonus nights--as we still needed 2 nights prior to 12/31/2009 to maintain gold status, I can't figure out why we got them. Is this an error or do they just sometimes decide to add "bonus nights" for no reason? Can anyone shed any light on why bonus nights are added? Can't find any info on the website beside rollover night info and Visa Marriott Rewards Info.
I would call Marriott Rewards and ask them these questions. Perhaps a stay was credited to your account much later than when you stayed, or more likely there was an account audit (which happens from time to time) and the folks there discovered that you'd missed a night.
Also, please see the threads on the Insider's about being close to making Gold for Next Year. It is possible that, based on your stay history, the folks at MR will allow you to make the same status next year. Also, in the past it was possible to buy the elite level with points--don't know if that has been approved for the year but in past years there has been a buy with points promotion efffective through February of the new year.
Thanks for all the responses. I also thought that perhaps it was from the bonus nights promotion over the summer, however, it struck me as odd that they just showed up over the last week--several months (maybe 6 months) after the promotion ended--that seems odd to me. Oh well, really not a big deal--I will check it out next time I call to make a reservation.
