I am going to Lake Tahoe for the first time in May 2016. Does anyone have any tips on things to do, places to go or to eat for 2 couples celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary? We are staying @ the Marriott Timber Lodge. Has anyone stayed @ this place? Thanks in advance.
Lake Tahoe is a great place to vacation.
I stayed at the Timber Lodge once and its a very nice establishment. The lobby has a rustic elegance and there are many places to eat as its right in downtown Lake Tahoe. Rooms are what you'd expect at a high end Marriott property - ask for a view of the mountains because I think that those rooms are a bit quieter.
Lake Tahoe has plenty of things to do, but if you have the time, go for a run around the lake near sunset. Very pretty. If you are more the indoor type, then a cruise around Lake Tahoe makes for a great memory. And I would suggest that you splurge for a private charter with just the two of you. It's more intimate without the cattle call feel. I google searched and found this Tahoe Cruises Yacht Charters Lake Tahoe | Tahoe Cruises | Private Boat Rental Give them a call, and they should be able estimate a cost. Or better yet, use this trick that I use. Go through the Marriott Timber Lodge concierge and have them suggest private charters, but then have MTL call the charter on your behalf. That way, you leverage MTL and get the best service.
If you like gambling, then try MontBleu Casino - high end casino with good but $$$ restaurants.
And I'd also recommend just getting your walking shoes on, and stroll down the main strip (which the MTL is on). Plenty of shops and places to eat and places to explore. Weather should be cool but not cold with all the crazy ski crowds gone.
Have a great vacation!
Looks like you've gotten some advice from keplertracker. I've also scanned the forum for some other threads that may be helpful, links below:
I have never been before, otherwise I'd give you some advice from experience!
I look forward to seeing other Insiders chime in on this for you, and congrats on 40 years of marriage!
May is a good month to visit Lake Tahoe. It takes 2 hours to drive around the lake to see its whole beauty. If you wish, you can park and access one of the trail heads to the Tahoe Rim trails for a hike. There is actually a trail head right behind Timber Lodge. Timber Lodge offers a free guided hike. You can walk to dinner at Harvey's Sage Room($$$$) or Harrah's Friday Station($$$$) or Fire and Ice at Timber Lodge($$) or pizza and beer nearby, You can shop at Raleys and cook in your room's kitchen or bbq at one of the gas grills close to the pools. You can also catch a comedy show at Harveys or an act at Mont Bleu, Harrahs, Caesars or Hard Rock Casinos. Have fun.
